On Judging

So the results for the pom+semolina entry into Foodie Fights has been posted. Here it is. Look, we need to talk... Absolutely first off... congrats to Bake Off Flunkie. When I saw your sweet bread entry Tiffiny I knew that was a likely winner. Good stuff and you deserve it completely. And mad props to all the contestants.
I have to say that this field of entries was one of the best I've seen yet. No, I don't say that because my own humble entry was in there too. Let's say the field looked good despite mine being there. OK? Happy? :)

But we have to talk about... guess what? The judging. I know, I know. Around here it's almost sacred tradition that on Thursday's when Gecko or I are involved in a FF there's going to be grousing about the judging. So let's go ahead and get down to cases, shall we? Michelle... seriously? I've seen some biased judging before but you went beyond the pale here. Stating up front that you don't like one of the ingredients and then basically repeating that sentiment in every other sentence... wow. You docked Felice because... your mom made you eat farina?? And, "unmarred by the wretched pomegranate," you did catch the part where poms were the main ingredient? Yes? Oh, let's not forget this gem: "and the only thing I find creepier than pomegranate and pomegranate juice is pomegranate jelly" Whaaaa?? How the hell does jelly rate 'creepier' than... well... anything? There's nothing less offensive than jelly, seriously. I've seen biased judging before but wow, just wow.

Don't worry 'Chelle, we'll get to your problems with my prose in a second. What? You didn't think I was going miss that, did you? :)

Ron... it wasn't a drink bud. Nope, it was jelly. Apparently offensive jelly but jelly nonetheless. I would let it slide but I just can't. The judges have to be accurate in their readings of the entries. If not... well why bother? Literally, why bother? On the other hand... I do agree in retrospect that after putting the Harvest Tartlettes together something less  mundane than the frosting should have been used. Lesson learned. But you have got to be accurate. (EDIT: Ron posted a comment that explained his situation, thanks Ron. Check it out here.)

Now where did 'Chelle go wandering off to? There she is. Front and center lady, because we need to talk. Gecko and I have known each other for over a decade. Hell, he predates my wife, if that tells you anything. And during that time it would be safe to say that the language has gotten a little rough, the topics have gotten a little sordid, and the edges have been slightly roughened. OK, let's face it... when Gecko and I are in our cups we can make sailors blush. When the idea for Nommy hit us we decided early on that this wasn't going to be any Paula Deen squeaky clean food blog. We decided to let our personalities flow into our posts and personas here. We knew going in that this would cost us some readers but we were fine with that. Basically I'm not going to white-wash my language just for a few damn click throughs, and I sure as hell won't whitewash it for you. If the idea of boobie humor makes you uncomfortable I would strongly recommend getting off the internet because those things are all over the place out there. I know, I've seen most of 'em. Next time you get to judge something I hope you have the integrity to excuse yourself if you have such strongly biased opinions about either the items on judge or one of the contestants. Wow, still blown away by your entire post. Oh, Michelle, don't click that boobie humor link. Everyone else, go for it. Just maybe not at work. Or school. Ummm church may be a bad spot too. Let's see... if you are in sex offender therapy you prolly shouldn't browse that. Just saying.
