Gadget Review - Grill Daddy

The Grill Daddy It's claim to fame is that it will clean and sanitize your grill at the same time therefor saving you massive amounts of time that you could be using to organize your chewed gum collection rather than using a water bottle to spritz water on the grill while you scrub at it with a boring wire brush.
Here at Nommy we've decided that we want to bring you more than just a blog about food, but also a blog about the gadgets used to prepare food. From the simple to the devices that looked like they came from Dr. Suess on acid we will be purchasing them and using them in our lives and then reporting our findings to you.
To start it off I am going to review a product called "Grill Daddy" (On a side note that's what my wife calls me too!)

I saw it in the store I was at and my first thought was "Wow that woman next to me is wearing way too much perfume." My second thought was "I can clean and sanitize my grill at the same time? Was I supposed to be sanitizing my grill? Must have been in the directions I didn't read." Really who reads the directions for a grill? Turn gas on, push sparky thingy, cook food! (These directions are OG approved click here for the OG reference) Anyways ... back to the product at hand. My first impression on the unpacking of the brush was "This was definitely made in China." On further inspection of the product ... it was in fact made in China! It's got a pretty cheap plastic feel to it and I was afraid if I dropped it that I might break it. This brush consists of a large bulbous handle that doubles as a water reservoir. It was a little awkward to handle but not too bad. It's got a nice big stainless steel brush on the end with another smaller stainless steel scraper. It definitely looks like something that could double as a murder weapon in a cheap horror movie.

So the deal with this guy is that you turn on your grill and let the grates heat up then you fill the reservoir with water and when the grill is nice and hot you turn a knob from off to on and water will be released onto the grill while you are scrubbing and you get your sanitizing action while having all the fun of a normal grill brush. So I started my grill and waited the directed 10 minutes to heat the grill and to burn the left over crap from my last BBQ (Lemon Pepper Chicken!). While I was waiting I filled the reservoir with water and then sat outside and watched the thermometer get up to 700 degrees. I've decided that steam or no whatever the hell might have been living in my grill was now dead and the grill was pretty sterilized at 700 degrees.  If I stopped there though I would have no review so I Grabbed the "Grill Daddy" and began to work. Work it did just fine although if you sent your 3 year old out to clean your grill with this thing I doubt it would work. I did have to use a decent amount of elbow grease to scrub the crap off but that could just be me and how few times I've cleaned it recently. The steam was nice and it did actually help with the cleaning. Overall I was pretty impressed with it. Could I have done the same thing with a brush from Wal-Mart and squirt gun? Probably but it was actually pretty easy and convenient being rolled all into one and this way I don't have to deal with the police at my door resonding to a complaint from a neighbor about "Some Crazy person is trying to rob his grill!". Will I buy another one if this breaks? No probably not.

The Good: Ok the brush made short work of the crap that was stuck to my grill and I actually was able to see the stainless steel again! The Bad: Not really anything bad about it. It was a little bigger than I anticipated and it felt a little cheap. Final Thoughts: I would not have bought this if I saw it on the shelf if I was not going to do a review about it. After using it I can see the advantages of cleaning your grill with steam but in all honesty there was nothing that it could do that I could not have done with a good brush and a water bottle.
